5G home internet vs cable in NEPA
We sell 5G home internet, so treat this page with suspicion. It is here because the honest comparison is the fastest way to work out whether you should buy from us. In two of the five rows below, cable wins.
Side by side
| Factor | 5G (AirWave) | Cable |
|---|---|---|
| Cost at heavy use | Can exceed cable | Usually cheaper |
| Cost at light use | Often competitive | Fixed price regardless |
| Data cap | None — pay per GB | Commonly 300 GB–1 TB then throttled or overage |
| Contract | None | Often 12–24 months |
| Latency | 15–50 ms typical | 5–20 ms typical |
| Peak speed | 100–600 Mbps | 300–1,000 Mbps |
| Speed consistency | Varies with load and signal | Very stable |
| Time to install | Minutes, self-serve | Days to months, technician visit |
| Equipment | You own it | Often provided |
| Upload | Often 10–30 Mbps | Often symmetric |
Where cable is simply better
- You stream 4K constantly. At 1 TB a month, 82¢ per GB is not competitive with a cable plan. See the usage maths before you commit to anything metered.
- You need rock-solid latency. Competitive gaming and serious remote desktop work both punish the 20–40 ms swings that cellular delivers when a nearby tower gets busy.
- You upload large files. Cable is often symmetric. Cellular upload is typically a fraction of the download.
- Cable is already installed and you use under 200 GB. You would be paying more for the same experience.
Where 5G wins
- You would otherwise be capped or charged overage. If your cable plan throttles at 300 GB and you regularly pass it, paying per GB is cheaper than the overage.
- Cable is slow, expensive, or not coming. In parts of the Endless Mountains, the Poconos and rural Wayne County, the realistic options are DSL or nothing. This is where 5G is not competing on price — it is the only thing that works.
- No contract matters to you. There is nothing to cancel, no early-termination fee, and no install appointment to wait three weeks for.
- You move, travel, or work from a second place. The data profile goes in the router and the router goes with you.
- You already have a 5G CPE router. Then the hardware cost is zero and the comparison is purely the monthly number.
A note on speed claims
We are an MVNO reseller. We do not own the towers, and the speed you get is the speed the network gives you at your address at that moment. Anyone quoting you a guaranteed Mbps figure for cellular is guessing. Ask for a speed test from a real customer in your town, and check it in the evening when the network is busiest.
